campus, and was attended by more than 70 people.

Defense for Democracies (FDD), a think-tank in
Washington, DC. Egemen Bagis of AKP and Onur Oymen of
CHP have been brought from Turkey to be guest speakers.

organized. The keynote speaker was Mr. Erkin Alptekin of
the Uyghur Turks. At this biggest and most crowded ATAA
meeting, representatives from the New York Times, the
Washington Post, U.S. State Department and Chinese
Embassy were also present. -

TURKISH WORLD: A new magazine has been launched,
focusing on not Turkish and American internal politics,
but on culture, history, the Turkish world, community
news and news from our component associations. Each
issue features a different Turkic country. -

25 component organizations. -

has organized a large-scale conference with TUSIAD in
Istanbul during the 2003 Annual Delegation Trip to
Turkey.

total of about 20 congressmen, senators and State
Department officials have been visited before and after
the Cyprus referendum, and have been briefed by the
experts of the subject. -

under the leadership of our former president Dr. Orhan
Kaymakcalan has been maintained. ATAA has hosted a
delegation of 30 people, including the Bulgarian
Minister of Economy and Turkish businessmen, and
introduced them to American businessmen, industrialists,
and IT company representatives. -

Bulgarian Mufti, who was invited by the U.S. government,
has been organized at the ATAA building.
· The
relationship established with Azerbaijan during the
leadership of our former president Tamer Acikalin has
been enhanced; an official delegation trip to Azerbaijan
was organized.

A very successful and
well-attended ATAA convention has been held in January
2004. -

by Turkish restaurant owners –who are now ATAA members–

releases have been issued following the terrorist
attacks in Istanbul. ATAA President Ercument Kilic has

2. RENEWAL OF ATAA’S
TECHNICAL AND PHYSICAL BACKGROUND
· The
Internet connection has been switched to cable from
dial-up, bringing the office up to speed.

Computers have been updated
and renewed.
·
Membership forms have been
updated to obtain more information about members in
order to serve them better.
· A
12 year-old database, which was operated in DOS and was
written in FORTRAN, was replaced with a modern database.
·
A server has been bought.
· The
e-mail list has been classified according to different
groups, including ATAA's current and former members,
Turkish Members of the Parliament, U.S. Congressmen,
Turkish Caucus Members, ATAA component associations,
Turkish Student Associations across the U.S.,
Azerbaijani groups, Jewish groups, Turkish media in the
U.S., Turkish media in Turkey, U.S. media, etc.
· ATAA
building has become fully functional.
· The
outdated ATAA website has been redesigned and is being
updated continuously.
·
Office costs have been
minimized.
·
E-mail newsletters have
been updated, and have become more efficient and
noticable.
·
ATAA's 10 years old e-mail
address list has been evaluated, cleaned up and updated,
now including 25K recipients.
·
Communication with various
Turkish yahoo groups has been started, significantly
increasing the circulation of the online newsletter. |
