ATAA LEADERSHIP VISITED
ERIC EDELMAN, THE NEW AMERICAN AMBASSADOR TO TURKEY
ATAA president Ercüment Kılıç and membership paid a
courtesy visit to Eric Edelman who is expected to be
appointed to the U.S. Ambassador position in Turkey by
this fall. Mr. Edelman whose parents were immigrants to
Turkey in the early part of this century from Russia,
certainly seem to make his appointment to the position
not only a wise one for the United States, but also a
pleasant one for Turkey. His very sincere, approachable
and unassuming style will probably be important assets
to the further development of the relationship between
Turkey and the United States.
During the visit ATAA president Ercüment Kılıç was
accompanied by ATAA Secretary General Ozgur
Karaosmanoglu, ATAA Vice President Oya Bain and other
ATAA Members, as well as the ATA-DC President Hulya
Polat.
President Ercüment Kılıç also stated at the end of the
meeting "as ATAA we want to be more visible in the
United States and especially in Washington, DC as an NGO
and a think tank, presenting a cross section of views of
a variety of Turkish-Americans. We will publish annual
white papers, and we would like your kind assistance in
communicating these views in person to the Vice
President and the President", and Mr. Edelman promised
an effort to accommodate.
